Kind of a rant.
I stopped getting my nails done since the shutdown and started doing them myself. Now that I’m 8 weeks pregnant, my husband suggested I go get my nails done to relax.
Why is getting gel polish now an additional $20 on top of the service? It used to be $5, then $7, then $10. I understand everything is getting more expensive, but this place still uses the same old equipment. What gives?
They don’t even let you soak your fingers anymore. It used to be so relaxing, but now it’s stressful with electric sanders that are usually for acrylics. The service has become more expensive but less enjoyable.
I’m just bummed that things have changed so much.
I don’t like getting gel nails anymore because salons now charge extra to remove them, which used to be included in the service. They also add fees for using a credit card. Because of these additional costs, I’ve stopped getting my nails done altogether.
It’s crazy that a whole bottle of the highest quality gel polish costs $20, yet salons charge that much just for a single application! Come on now!
I buy DND gel and polish sets at a local store that sells various salon products and brands for $5-6. The upcharges for gel at salons are absurd! I got a curing light and my own gel polish, and now my husband does my nails and pedicure. They last longer than when I overpaid at a salon.
Your husband? That’s so sweet!
Is your husband single? /s
Seriously though, that is incredibly sweet!
Can you have him stop by my place on his way home?
I’ve had two at-home gel kits—the first was Mally and the second was a no-name brand. They both worked unbelievably well and were so much cheaper.
The last time I visited a salon, they refused to use regular polish. To make matters worse, they didn’t even know how to properly cure dark colors. That experience was the final straw for me, and I decided to stop going to salons altogether.
I rarely get mani/pedis, but the last time I went, I just wanted regular nail polish. I knew if I got dip, gel, acrylic, or any other type, I wouldn’t return to have it removed properly and would end up damaging my nails by picking at them. So, I asked for regular polish, and they refused! Ridiculous. I’ll just paint my own nails from now on, thank you very much.
