I usually feel like I should go for something subtle, but I also can’t do my makeup without any eyeliner. What’s your take? Should I try a thin line of brown or gray eyeliner? Wing or no wing? I tend to do navy eyeliner with a wing. I have blue eyes and a cool complexion, and I want to try a wine red shade for some Christmas events. Any tips?
I usually do just black winged liner or a neutral eyeshadow look with thin eyeliner.
I think it depends on your style. One way is to keep the eyes more subtle with a bold lip, so it doesn’t look too overdone. But the other way is to balance it out with a dramatic eye. I prefer the second, and once I figured that out, makeup became much easier.
Yes, balance is key. Also, I can’t stand mixing warm and cool tones. I like to keep my lips and cheeks matching in tone, and my eyes too.
I agree! My face needs balance too, or it just feels off.
For me, dramatic lips and dramatic eyes don’t go together. I like to keep eyes neutral with a dramatic lip or do a bold lip with subtle eyeshadow like pale tones and shimmer. Fine-tip eyeliner and mascara just help shape the eyes without drawing too much attention away from the lip. Marilyn Monroe’s classic red lip look is a great example.
I think winged liner looks great with bold lipstick.
I usually do a light wash of a neutral color on the eyes and winged eyeliner, either black or brown depending on how bold I want it.
Winged liner and mascara is all you need.
I curl my lashes, add mascara, and sometimes a winged eyeliner in black or brown. I usually skip eyeshadow unless I’m going out, since I do my makeup while driving to work.
Just mascara and eyeliner for me.
I subtly contour my hooded lids and line my upper lash line with a fine liquid liner. I use a skin-colored liner on my lower waterline. When I wear a bold lip, I focus on perfect skin and subtle blush.
Tightlining and a contour shade on the eyelid works for me. If it looks too bare, I’ll add mascara.
I think the rule should be: bold lips with subtle eyes and vice versa. Heavy makeup is best for evening or formal occasions.
Thin eyeliner with very little eyeshadow (mostly nude or soft pink) and mascara.
A thin brown eyeliner looks great with bold lipstick. It defines the eyes without overpowering the lip. Skip the wing for a more balanced look, especially since your lips will be the focal point. A little mascara will add extra dimension.
Winged liner and an inner corner highlight are my go-tos!
My lipstick is usually black or deep red, so I base my eyes on my outfit. If it’s casual, I’ll go with winged eyeliner and mascara. For nicer outfits, I add eyeshadow too.
I love dark lipstick, but I usually stick to black eyeliner for neutral lips. For strong lip colors, I go lighter on the liner using a darker eyeshadow to line my eyes. I have blue eyes and pale skin, and dark brown or eggplant eyeliner makes them pop.
I tend to go for a smoky eye look.
