What can I use instead of Vaseline?

I stopped using Vaseline when I was a teenager because I don’t like petroleum products. But recently at the dentist, they put some on my lips, and my lips have felt soft and hydrated for days!

I’ve tried Burt’s Bees and other stuff, but nothing’s worked quite like this. Does anyone have a similar option that isn’t petroleum-based?

Lanolin! Try Dr. Lipp’s nipple balm; it feels like petroleum jelly but lasts a lot longer.

Yes, lanolin is the best!

Same here, lanolin works wonders. I get larger tubes of nipple ointment with 100% lanolin.

Thanks! I should’ve mentioned I’m looking for something plant-based if possible. I just read that lanolin comes from sheep wool.

It’s pure lanolin, just extracted from the wool. Shearing is actually good for the sheep, if that’s what you’re concerned about.

I get it… I try not to think too hard about that part.

I just stick with Vaseline.

Why exactly don’t you like Vaseline? It’s very purified and safe to use.

I use 100% Shea butter on my face and lips. It’s got that greasy feel most people dislike, but it really saves my skin in winter!

Lucas’ Papaw ointment is a good option, or other occlusives made from plant butters.

Lucas’ Papaw is actually mostly petroleum jelly.

True, but I think finding something totally free of petroleum with the same texture is tough! The Papaw ointment feels more liquidy, so it’s nice to use.

A thick oil like castor or Shea butter on top of hyaluronic acid might work.

Try vitamin E ointment. It comes in a gel form, like petroleum jelly.

Bag Balm could be an option.

It’s funny how people keep suggesting products with petroleum jelly when you specifically asked for alternatives without it.

Aquaphor Healing Skin Ointment 14 oz.

Isn’t Aquaphor a petroleum product?

Yep, it is. But it’s tough to find something as effective without petroleum or lanolin. Aquaphor really works wonders overnight! You could also try products with hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, or castor oil.
