I often see cool styles I want to try, but I have no idea where to start with tops, bottoms, accessories, hairstyles, and shoes.
All these elements can make a big difference, but I never know how to approach it. I’ve realized that most of my current clothes don’t align with the style I like, so I want to revamp my wardrobe but don’t know where to begin. Pinterest boards and online shopping carts get overwhelming.
Even when shopping, there are so many options that I don’t know what to choose or how to be creative. I seriously aspire to be one of those people who can take a plain white t-shirt and turn it into the coolest outfit.
Any tips?
Begin with the basics. Invest in well-fitting jeans, neutral tops (like white, black, or gray), and a few versatile jackets or sweaters. These essentials can be mixed and matched with more interesting pieces, forming the backbone of your wardrobe and making it easier to create outfits.
Ill-fitting clothes can make even the best outfits look sloppy. Ensure your jeans are the right size and fit well. Tops and jackets should fit comfortably on your shoulders and torso.
Absolutely. If needed, get your clothes, especially pants, tailored to fit. It’s a relatively inexpensive way to look put together. And if your pants have belt loops, make sure to wear a belt.
Quality basics are essential. You don’t need to spend a lot, but these pieces are the workhorses of your wardrobe and need to last.
So far, I’ve gotten some basic fitted long sleeves and jeans that I style with layered bracelets and necklaces, but I can never seem to find jeans I fully like—there’s always something off about them
Especially with baggy jeans. I realized I only like them when they’re low-waisted because that suits me best, but I can’t find any that aren’t extremely baggy or weirdly long at the bottom (basically sweeping the floor, lol).
You might want to explore petite sizes! Also, consider other pant options like linen, corduroy, and slacks to get you started.
Basic skirts and skorts are worth checking out too.
I have the same issue with jeans (there’s always something off about them), but I almost never have this problem with other styles of pants.

Spend a day trying on clothes. Visit a mall and check out a few department stores for the most variety. Take note of which colors and shapes look good on you and which ones to avoid. Not every cut suits everyone, and you can see what flatters you versus what doesn’t.
Once you have some well-fitting quality basics, a great outfit comes down to the details. Add a pop of color with a belt, choose an unexpected pair of shoes, or wear some playful, flashy jewelry with an otherwise plain outfit.
Have fun!
