How can I use shimmer shades? This might seem like an obvious question, but I’m not sure

My favorite part of doing my makeup is eyeshadow—I love my palettes. I have a lot of them, but one thing I have a love/hate relationship with is the shimmers because I don’t know how to use them. I have hooded, uneven eyes, so I usually stick to smoky eyes, which I kinda hate because I wish I could use shimmer shades. I hate wasting product, so I try to use everything, but I just don’t know how to use shimmer shades.

Check out Smitha Deepak on YouTube. She has very hooded eyes but often uses shimmers and glitters in her tutorials

I just learned a new eyeshadow tip from another post in this sub. I use a shade one shade darker than my skin on my upper lid, then take a shimmer (I prefer a light rose or light pink), tap off the excess, and lightly blend it across my eyelid. It’s so soft and pretty.

Before this, I mostly used mattes, thinking I couldn’t do shimmers anymore, but this technique has proven me wrong.

I just bought two Bobbi Brown shadow sticks—one is a matte that matches my base shadow color, and the other is a light shimmer. I’m hoping these will stay in place better, especially the shimmer. I’m sure there will be a learning curve to not overdo the shimmer, but I love shadow sticks and hope these two don’t disappoint.

I have hooded eyes and I LOVE a good shimmer. The key is soft, blended looks and bringing the shadow up to just under the eyebrow. I apply shimmer on the middle part of my hooded lid, from lash to brow, which adds a lovely highlight and depth that can get lost with the softness of my lid. I also use a light shimmer on my inner corner to brighten that area. Adding a dark matte to the outer corner completes the look.

I wear glasses, so my makeup needs to be a bit more pronounced to be visible, but I’m sure this technique works without glasses too!

Hello @ScoutSidney !
For a simple eye look, I think a shimmer in the inner corner is really pretty. My favorite is adding a bit of shimmer to the center of my lower lid for a fresh look. You can also pair this with a wash of matte color on the lid, but sometimes I just apply it on my bare eyes.

I apply my shimmer with my pinky, tapping it from the inner corner to the middle of my lid.
