So I just had my legs waxed for the first time, and they’re all prickly with a bunch of missed hairs. It feels more like they were shaved three days ago instead of being freshly waxed. My legs might’ve been dry going into it, but is this how it’s supposed to feel after a wax?
If I go back, is there even anything they can do since the hair’s already broken instead of pulled? My partner’s coming home soon after being away for a while, and honestly, I feel like I’ll need to shave to feel smooth. Super bummed out.
I’m a waxing specialist and do this a lot. If your leftover hairs are shorter than a quarter inch, they can’t really be waxed off again unless you’re up for a long, painful tweezing session! Normally, you don’t feel totally smooth until your third wax because hair grows in three cycles.
Waxing your legs every 4, 6, or 8 weeks (whatever it takes for the hair to grow out to a quarter inch) helps it come out evenly over time. It’s possible your waxer broke the hairs, but they also should’ve told you it would take around three sessions to get a smooth finish. If you’re desperate to be smooth, it’s fine to shave about 48 hours after waxing, but just that one time if you plan to keep waxing. For legs, I only use soft wax since hard wax tends to break hairs.
Totally agree. If your waxer knows her stuff, you just need to keep going regularly. Also, moisturizing and exfoliating can help the skin. Just skip exfoliating on wax day.
I wasn’t fully smooth until the third or fourth wax. It takes time because some hairs are stubborn and won’t come out in the first go. The next time around, they do. Give it a few tries before you decide if it’s working for you. I’ve been doing it for years, and now my leg hair is so thin, it barely grows back in patches.
I usually do Brazilian waxing and not legs, so take the leg experts’ advice here. But for Brazilians, exfoliating before my wax has always helped with the removal. I’d think it would help for legs too.
It depends on the person. I have fine leg hair that grows slow, and I’m smooth for two weeks after one wax. But that’s not typical; how your hair grows and whether it breaks depends on genetics, age, hormones, and even what you eat.
