I recently started a new job where visible tattoos are not allowed. I have a tattoo on my hand that I’ve never had to cover before, but now I need a solution that is waterproof and transfer-proof. What should I use?
For the most water-resistant tattoo coverage, I recommend using Skin Illustrator, which is activated with 99% alcohol. Start by color-correcting the tattoo ink, then use a chip brush or toothbrush to apply skin tones over the tattooed area. This method requires some practice and time, depending on the tattoo’s size, but it won’t transfer onto clothing and is quite durable. To set everything in place, use a setting spray like Green Marble.
Keep in mind that these products are not ideal for long-term use as they can be harsh on your skin, but they should meet your needs for effective coverage.
@HazelRiver Thank you so much! I’ll do my best to follow your advice!
Dermablend can cover a tattoo, but you’ll need to reapply it each time you wash your hands.
Oh no, I was really hoping it would be waterproof too!
It’s long-lasting but not waterproof. There are alcohol-based makeups activated with 99% alcohol, but even those will come off with frequent hand washing and can look odd if you have hair on your hands. It takes a lot of practice to get used to, though. As makeup artists, we often use these products in TV and film to cover tattoos.
Make sure to practice a lot! You’ll need brushes as well. Remember, it won’t activate with the regular 70% alcohol from the drugstore; it needs to be 99%.
