Best ways to clean a beauty blender and brushes? Help needed…

I’m in the UK, and can’t get Dawn dish soap, which worked wonders when I used it in the US. I’ve tried different methods over the years, but nothing gets everything out of my blender and brushes. I’ve tried regular dish soap, branded cleansers, even washing them with non-bio detergent… no luck.

I use oil-based foundation, so it’s stubborn to remove. Any tips?

Have you tried a regular strong dish soap? I get my brushes clean with most shampoos, but the beauty blender is tougher.

I actually cut my beauty blender open once… it was full of foundation inside. Going to try to find some stronger dish soap. Thanks for the tip!

If it’s that caked in there, it might be time for a new one! I use Pears soap (from Morrisons) or Isoclean, and it works great.

It’s pretty new, just don’t clean it as often as I should. Thanks!

I wash mine after every use and squeeze it until the water runs clear, then go over it once more. Tedious, but only takes a minute. Also, cutting it in half showed mine was clean inside, so maybe it’s just about using a strong soap and rinsing it all the way.

Fairy is meant to be similar to Dawn.

I’ve tried Fairy, but it doesn’t work as well as Dawn did.

Even though they’re made by the same company, they feel different to me too. Dawn just seems better.

For beauty blenders, get a lather going, squeeze and release, and re-wet to keep the lather moving. Brushes are easier, just rub the bristles in the soap on your palm. I got this textured cleaner that helps break down the makeup.

I actually made a DIY cleaner with hot glue dots on a plastic sheet. Works just as well!

That’s a good tip, thanks!

If you have access to Zote or Fels Naptha laundry bars, they work wonders. You can also try adding white vinegar to the water.

Thanks! I’ll look for Zote here in the UK and give vinegar a try.

Is Zote a solid bar or a liquid?

Have you tried EcoTools brush cleanser? I use it for my beauty blender, but I replace mine every few months too.

I just use antibacterial soap on my beauty blenders and brushes.

Might try Fairy Max with anti-bac and see if that helps, thanks.

I soak my brushes in warm water with 1 tbsp of dish soap and 1 tbsp of white vinegar. Leave for 20 minutes, then rinse out the makeup.

Just FYI, Fairy is meant to be like Dawn.
