I’ve read online that it’s dangerous and lacks evidence of benefits, but many people I know swear by it and say it has changed their lives. What should I do?
What exactly is mouth taping? It doesn’t sound like a good idea to me.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but mouth taping is when you tape your mouth shut while you sleep to force yourself to breathe through your nose and keep your tongue in the right position. I believe the idea is to reduce a double chin and improve facial structure. Some people also use it for non-beauty reasons, like addressing breathing issues such as sleep apnea.
There’s a mouthpiece made from a mold that has a bridge across the tongue to help with snoring.
On another note, isn’t there a chin strap that secures at the crown of your head to keep your mouth closed?
I started noticing more pronounced horizontal wrinkles and natural neck folds at age 46. I began using Retinol and gua sha, which has helped a lot.
I might be mistaken, but it seems like many of the benefits people are claiming could either be exaggerated or simply due to the placebo effect
Honestly, it sounds terrifying, especially if you have a cold or sinus issues. Even without those, it could be stifling and potentially dangerous. Fads and hypes can sometimes be made up and pose serious risks to anyone who tries them. Are the people recommending this really your friends if they’re suggesting something that could endanger your life or health?
Why not give it a try? I tape at night for several reasons. I use 3M surgical tape and make sure to moisturize and apply a thick layer of lip balm. I only use a small strip, so if you need to breathe through your mouth, you still can. There’s no feeling of suffocation or claustrophobia.
