Face feels weird after washing…anyone else get this?

So this might be a strange question, but every time I wash my face, I start feeling like there’s something tickling it, almost like a hair is on my skin or someone is brushing my face lightly. It’s super annoying, especially since it doesn’t go away until I touch or wipe my face. It mostly happens on my nose, chin, and cheeks.

I’ve tried different face washes, exfoliating and non-exfoliating, but it keeps happening. I also try to find a moisturizer that works well with my face wash. Lately, I’ve been using Cerave since my skin tends to get pretty dry, and I exfoliate with a cloth about once a week. Is this normal? Or am I just imagining things?

I get that feeling with some of my skincare and makeup too! I think it could be mild sensitivity to products. Sometimes tiny fibers can stick to your skin from towels, cotton balls, or even pet hairs. It might also be those fine hairs on your face being brushed around by the products or moisturizer.

Same here. For me, I sometimes use micellar water along with my usual skincare routine to make it stop. It works for a while, but it can still happen from time to time.

Could this be from the temperature of the water you’re using? Maybe try cooler or warmer water to see if it changes anything.

I totally get this too, especially on my upper lip area! It almost feels like something is messing with those fine hairs on my face, and it only stops when I touch it. Let me know if you find any solutions…I’m curious too!

Just some things to think about:

  1. Do you use different moisturizers, or is it only this one causing the reaction?
  2. Do you feel it with all skincare or just certain steps?
  3. Any common ingredients across products that could be causing it?
  4. What kind of towel do you use to dry your face, and how often do you wash it?
  5. Do you apply products with clean hands or use cotton pads, etc.?
  6. Have you noticed any weird smells or texture changes in the products?
  7. Are all your skincare items stored properly and not expired?
  8. Do you buy from reliable places, or could any be fakes?
  9. Any recent changes in your diet?
  10. Are you getting enough vitamins?
  11. Have you switched laundry detergents?
  12. Any pets that could be causing allergies?
  13. Has your water tasted or smelled different lately?
  14. Do you get water from a well or a main water supply?

(And some private stuff that might help):

  • Any medications that list skin reactions as side effects?
  • Any recent dose changes or missed doses?
  • Any health conditions or family history of skin issues?

Hopefully, some of this helps point you in the right direction. Stray hair or towel fluff happens a lot to me too, so it might be something like that.

I get the same itchiness and tickling feeling sometimes too, and I think it might be from tiny skin mites that everyone has on their face. I’ve started using hypochlorous acid spray, and it has actually helped a lot.
